About MIM Often times, components that are traditionally made by costly conventional methods like investment casting, forging, CNC machining, etc. have huge cost savings potential by converting to metal injection molding (MIM) manufacturing. Cost savings can be upwards of 30% over conventional manufacturing methods resulting in manufacturing cost savings in the hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars in some applications. Attributes of these components often include small parts (typically less than 250g but as much as 500g) with complex geometry, relatively high tolerances (+/- .3-.1%) and high production volumes (typically over 30k/yr). Materials include low alloy steel, tool steel, stainless steel, soft magnetic alloys, and specialty alloys such as titanium. Metal injection molding fits well with a broad range of industries from consumer, industrial, medical, firearms, electronics and more! Many times, the only thing standing in the way of cashing in on huge cost savings is the resources and expertise to make it happen. Elements is unique in that we bridge the gap between the customer and the MIM manufacturers. We manage the technical aspects of a new project from beginning to end and deliver a product that will hit the ground running, rather than have countless design flaws revealed during manufacturing setup. These all-inclusive “A to Z” services are not available with most metal injection molding vendors. For a more in-depth introduction to the metal injection molding process click here.
